The Pickens High School attendance zone incorporates a feeder system including two middle schools and six elementary schools. Instrumental music begins in the sixth grade level at Pickens and Dacusville Middle Schools.
At the high school, the marching band is the primary performing ensemble for the majority of the fall semester. The marching band consists of approximately 60 winds, 15 percussion and 20 color guard. The Pickens Marching Band serves as musical entertainment and support for the Varsity football team. In addition, the band prepares and performs a musical and visual production for marching competitions, including the SCBDA Marching Band Championships, Bands of America, and others.
The Pickens Concert Ensembles are the foundation of the band orgranization. Students are divided among two concert bands, the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band. These ensembles meet every other day for 90 minutes per period and take part in several performances throughout the year including the annual SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment. In addition, individual students take part in the Pickens All County Band process, SCBDA Region and All-State audition process, and SCBDA Solo and Ensemble Festival. Additional winter and spring performance opportunities for students include Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, a chamber music program and Winter Guard.
